Connection error, host reboot is the only way to fix it

Hi, I’m looking for some help on an issue that I’m crazy about.
I have Home Assistant OS installed on a NUC with Nabu Casa to be able to connect from outside.
Since a couple of weeks ago, and randomly once or twice a day, I am unable to access Home Assistant.
When I access through the IP inside the house I have a “connection error” whether I access from the browser or with the app on the mobile. And if it happens when I’m out of home, I can’t connect against the URL provided by Nabu Home either.
The only way to solve it is to physically reboot the NUC.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Have you looked through the logs for hints? Is the device pingable when the error is present?

The missing piece of the puzzle is for how long accessing HA lasts. This is not typical behaviour so something else is most like at play.

Please also provide a copy of your configuration.yaml.

yes I couldn’t find anyting wrong.
yes, it is pingable.

haven’t change anything in configuration.yaml so why this might be relevant?

Have you tried different ways to access it? I’ve had this problem before when using the companion app on an android phone, which could not connect, while at the same time I could still access it through the browser. I’ve also found that in my case, the problems went away when I connected my HA through wifi instead of ethernet. This last thing is due to my router I’m fairly sure, so HA is not to blame, but it’s annoying anyway.

That wasn’t a typo BTW. Contrary to common sense, my connection stability problems disappeared when I switched FROM ethernet TO wifi. I don’t think that is typical but if all else fails it’s worth a try.

when I can’t connect through the companion app, I can’t either connect with a browser via ethernet.

Another suggestion from my experiences: Have you tried both with IP address and with the .local address when in the house? Because in my case the .local address would work when the router randomly decided to stop communicating through the IP4 and only through IP6 (despite setting something different in the router UI)

Your case seems quite different from mine but in troubleshooting you sometimes just have to throw random punches when you’re out of logical options

I will try using .local the next time it happens. Thanks for the suggestion!

Hi,

This night connection was lost again so I have verified that:

  • Neither local IP, nor .local address or external Nabu Casa URL couldn’t be reached through ethernet or wifi.
  • I can ping Home Assistant local IP address
  • Home Assistant Observer webpage shows:
    |Supervisor:|Connected|
    |Supported:|Supported|
    |Healthy:|Healthy|

I had to reboot host to fix the issue.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Any idea or suggestion? It is really annoying! Thanks!
