Control Locks with Alexa

I am having a small issue with Alexa and the emulated hue component, and was wondering if anyone else has found a way to get this working.

Alexa is able to successfully turn on/off almost all of my devices (lights, z-wave outlets, etc.) while simply recognizing them as “dimmable lights”, but it has no effect on my z-wave deadbolt. If I tell Alexa to “turn on/off deadbolt”, she says “OK”, but the state of the lock does not actually change. Does not respond to “lock/unlock” commands either.

Similar issue with a Sharp Aquos TV, can’t get that to turn on or off via Alexa either, although in this case she does not say “OK”, she says that the device is not responding.

Both of these devices respond normally when controlled from the HASS frontend.

Typically Alexa won’t let you open locks, only close them for security reasons. Otherwise people could open your locks by shouting really loud. LOL

This USED to be available as I had a legacy shortcut that I could access through Wink, but it was removed.

I think the only way around this would be to create a custom intent and run it through HA.

Can’t speak to the TV as I don’t have the experience with it.

You can get this to work with a Wink shortcut. The key is to only have lights included in the shortcut when having Alexa discover devices. Once discovered, edit the shortcut to include the actions you desire.

Neat. Never thought of gaming the system.

You are a true hacker. LOL
