Control4 ThermostatV2

I have Control4 in my home as well as home assistant, (and raidora3 but not relevant
I used to have an ecobee thermostat integrated into home assistant just fine.
But I got the Control4 thermostat V2 from work and am using that now.
As I understand, the official control4 integration only exposes lights and switches. Is there a way to add the thermostat to home assistant?

It should be possible.
I know people use web2way for control4.
Its probably not as easy or practical as other systems.
Be careful with your ecobee they aren’t giving out new api’s to anyone last i checked.
Does anything integrate between the two?

things that'll make my head pop courtesy of control4

I’m Done with Ecobee. I hate it and won’t go back ha.
maybe hoobs or something could act as a bridge? but my goal is to eliminate as many hubs as I can.
I’m an electrician for an integrator company. thats why I have control4 and lutron Radio ra3. But I enjoy using Home assistant. I also have hubitat, lutron caseta philips hue, aqara m3, and homekit. too many hubs! I don’t want have to add another just for one connection if that makes sense.
I have seen that in the past people have made drivers and such that could bring non light control4 devices into home assistant. but they all seem to be broken.

anything control4 can do can be replaced by shelly, home assistant, smart switches, smart lights… its probably 100k cheaper too(the last control4 “revamp” quote i heard was 250k(like cmon 4 real)).

Home assistant will rely on some apps for integration but those are usually cloud devices.
I use HA and Homekit together for siri.
I have tuya hidden on my phone and dont use it except to add things to tuya and its ha integration.
Allot of people would probably just buy esp devices for the rest of ever because they can make any dumb object a smart one and locally too…

control4’s only Brightside is nothing to get left behind in developer hell like integrations on HA or random projects to integrate random things. But everything is controllable on HA depending on how long your willing to integrate it.

Personally id replace the thermostat with a smart home panel like shelly,
Add a temp/co/air quality sensor anywhere and everywhere,
Put an esp controller on your hvac (configured for zones or stages or communication or however your system work),
use a hacs thermostat or something besides ha generic thermostat,

and if the internet goes out your esp and ha should still work through the local system.

Sorry im not much help for control4 but I dont like any other system just as much, the only time id ever recommend a thermostat from a supplier over a opensource option is if you have a very specific fully communicating and variable system, luckily raytheo… i mean carrier has a api and dev portal and theyre buying up a good amount of the hvac NA scene i hear.

i wonder how mad the nabu casa devs would get if i tagged them in this post as a reason they need to create a home service/integration technician incentive program or hire reps to sell some home assistant support thing to companies already in homes.
In my mind home assistant will replace the control4 panels of old

They both have their place for sure! home assistant is coming along way and is fantastic! very well could compete with with control4. But control4 is also fantastic. its moved beyond just panelized lighting. it was wireless switches for traditional lighting methods as well and are very elegant in appearance. In my opinion control4 isn’t going anywhere, its only getting better. But its expensive as hell and needing to be a ceritified technician keeps it out of the diy and normal world. which is what i think they want anyway. they want that high end market.

They do have a “Pro” program, and as long as you’re a certified electrician, you can install it in other people’s homes. You can also buy it online if you’re interested in trying it out yourself.

It’s interesting to hear that you’ve had such a positive experience with Control4! I’ll admit, you’re the first person I’ve come across who really enjoyed it. My experience has been more on the removal side—typically from HVAC systems where it caused some challenges. (For context, I’ve worked with a lot of different setups over the years.)

That said, it could just be a case of the wrong configurations for the systems I’ve encountered. I’ve never seen one handle humidifiers properly, which gave me some doubts about its ease of use for HVAC controls—but I’d love to hear more about your setup and what made it work so well for you!

3rd post indicates control4 has access to some thermostats and home assistant

You Know whats funny. is MOST people sadly have a bad experience at one point. there are a suprisiing number of terrible insallers.
and control4, bless their hearts, have terrible networking equipment that just messes things up. and most integrators don’t know networking enough.
One thing my company specializes in, is fixing broken systems and making them work as intended.
A lot of it is network issues, get a stable network and a lot of the issues go away!

I just got the thermostat installed. and a new furnace. I do not have a humidifier. so my experience so far with the thermostat is very basic functions. but from an automation stand. I LOVE control4. I need to dive deeper in the media side still. its expensive! but I have a bunch of switches and keypads around the house.
the way control4 does their lighting scenes, and how you set up keypad button pushes is pretty dang straight forward and easy! Not the biggest fan of setting up lighting scenes in Home assistant. but I also haven’t delved too deeply into it because of control4.
Home assistants dashboards are really fun for me, and they integrate with so many things!

It all really depends on the setup,
as much as I dont like carrier I think they have the best variable systems on the market(furnaces that can modulate low enough to heat one specific room without high limiting(assuming theres a proper zone controller communicating to the variable thermostat)).

Allot of larger homes are actually just running air handlers with boiler or refrigerant coils and sometimes in floor also, add 3 steam humidifiers around the vav ductwork and your looking at a bas system basically no matter what.
