"Correctly" include FritzBox router (7590)

Hi,

I’m still new to HA and trying to figure out things. I run a HA green with the SkyConnect dongle and I’m really happy so far.

One thing bugs me though: My router, a FritzBox 7590 (FRITZ!Box 7590 | Übersicht | AVM Deutschland), allows for an integration into HA. My HA is directly connected to the router via ethernet.

Now, HA detects out of the box the following integrations from/for the router:

  • AVM FritzBox Tools
  • AVM Fritz SmartHome
  • DLNA Digital Media Server
  • UPnP/IGD

I added all of these - even though I probably don’t need all of them. The “Tools” integration seems to give me a list of “sensors”, being metrics from the router. This includes download speed etc.

Now in my dashboard, a long list of these metrics show up double. “Download speed” is shown twice, same for upload speed and a few more. Interestingly, the values of these individual metrics are not the same! So it’s probably not a simply copy but a different entity being “read” here!?

Looking into the UPnP integration tells me that it has configured TWO devices, a “FritzBox 7590” and a “InternetGatewayDeviceV2 - FritzBox 7590”

, which seems unnecessarily redundant.

Now - both of those devices list 12 entities, both of which are identical. This seems to be the source of the double sensors.

While I now surely can hide or disable these entities in one of these devices, I’m asking myself how to do it “right”. Did I misconfigure my router for HA wrongly? Is there a reason theres two devices registered for the same router - yet under different names?
