Ok so i got a 3d printer and i am wondering if i can connect it to my home assistant without using another pi, if so could I then be able to print and control things with it?
I think it depends on how you set up your system. Octoprint is the package you use to interface with HA, so if you are running a docker or something you might be able to but I use Octoprint and I don’t think I would want HA running on the same system managing the printer just because Octoprint can be a bit of a resource hog, particularly if you want to hook up a camera to view your print bed.
Outside of Octoprint I don’t think there’s any way you can just connect the USB from the printer to your HA and do anything interesting with it unless there’s an add-on specific to your printer that can read the sensors like the bed temperature or nozzle temperature and progress percentages.
if you’re running HAOS there is an Octoprint add-on.
Hey, man. I know it’s been a while, but did you figure it out? I want to do the same thing, but I don’t know if it’s possible and I pretty much don’t want to spend much time figuring it out.
