Create recipes within the web UI

Modifying yaml files and reloading from the command line all the time is kind of a pain, would be nice if you could just login the web page and make changes there.

Sure do you have ideas on how to handle split multi file configs as well? I see that the guys over at flexget have real trouble getting somethin like this to work. I agree that it would be helpful espacially for new people to YAML & python but it’s no easy task.

Cheers

You would definitely have to enforce some rules/standards in order to do it completely. But, to start with, if it is even just a simple web yaml editor that lists the files and offers smart editing, that would be pretty valuable.

I wonder if one of the open source editors like they use in CMS like joomla would work?

Making the content on a ui able to edit files seems like a bit of a security nightmare.
Making a full web based editor also is a bit out of scope for the HA project.

I respectfully disagree completely. Making the content on a ui does not pose any more of a security concern than does making your home information and cameras available on the UI, in my opinion.

Also, I think it is an attribute of a good home automation solution to be able to work fully within a user interface (and many other people would agree with me, just look on reddit).

I agree with jwater7. I am starting to really enjoy the features and flexibility of HA while I work on the Lutron Caseta support. I have used several hubs that all have web or gui app support for editing. I do believe we need multiple user and privilege controls first for security. That way a “super user” with a long hyper-encrypted password can edit the system while different users see different content.

I also want to see web dev tools for customizing the look and feel of the we interface. For example: I really don’t like the dimmer control and want to create my own. I also would like to develop custom themed web pages with very different appearance. It looks like I may be working with the software a very long time unless someone builds a reasonably priced hub that actually works with everything. HA is the closest but a pure DIY product.
