Create virtual device to add properties to existing devices

Hi!

Is there a possibility to create a virtual shutter device that acts like a normal shutter device, to add new properties and functions to the virtual shutter device.

For example, the virtual shutter device inherits all functions from the normal shutter device, but it adds the property ‘locked’. So is the command open or close is send to the virtual shutter device, it looks, if ‘locked’ is true. If not, it calls the corresponding function of the real device (for example shelly shutter). If ‘locked’ is true, it does nothing.

Yes, you are right, I could use automations and binary helpers, but if I could create a virtual shutter device, I could use the normal logic and functions of home assistant, for example shutter groups.

So you have an idea about that?

Thanks!

Hi @buzzer8

I’m also looking for the same thing, as I’m missing the position of the sensor in MyHomeSCS integration. I have it in a variable now integrating the opening/closing time.

Did you find any solution ?

Thanks
