Daisy-chaining zwave add-on switches for a 4-way config

I’m going to be converting a 4-way setup with dumb switches to zwave switches. One zwave switch and three add-on switches. Easy-peasy.

Now to describe the wrinkle.

Say I’ve correctly installed and configured the above zwave setup. Now, I’d like to add another switch in another location and the vastly easier way to do this would be to use an an existing but unused 14/2 wire that runs from from the location of one of the add-on switches to the location I’d like to add a switch.

I don’t understand how the add-on switches work so I’m not sure if this scenario would work…would it? If it makes any difference I’m not committed to any specific manufacturer as I haven’t bought the switches yet.

I can’t speak to other manufacturers, but for the GE/Jasco switches I’ve used, it only requires two wires from the “master” (i.e., non-add-on) switch to one or more add-on switches – a neutral and a “traveler”. See:

In theory they only seem to support 3-way (i.e, one master, one add-on) and 4-way (i.e., one master and two add-ons.)
