So you like the ATIOS but you cant DIM or adjust the Color (tunable white light)?
Sounds like you are missing out on some of the important features, specifically dimming.
Am i getting this right?
So you have a DALI 4Net (with power supply) and the DALI-2 IoT Gateway. You are doing your basic lights config in the 4net, and then using the IoT gateway to get the lights in to HA?
Does HA recognize the IoT Gateway and all the groups, or how do you connect them together?
No, youâre not getting this right.
I can totally dim via HA. I can also dim via any other Dali controller.
However, in the latter case, HA doesnât get the updated brightness value. In case of controlling the ballasts via a controller like a rotary dimmer, HA only gets updates when turning the lights on or off.
Note that this is only the case with my specific rotary dimmers (Lunatone). They send out relative brightness values instead of absolute values. With dimmers sending absolute brightness values, the bridge would already be able to capture them and feed them back to HA. Atios says that they will implement the capturing of relative values some time this spring.
Regarding color / tunable white: I canât comment much on that since I do not have any corresponding ballasts. But I believe it should work with the bridge, with the exception of the above mentioned lack of feedback to HA when using different controller than HA. But you should check with Atios.
Thanks for the quick reply.
So in addition to the Atios, you also need a DALI Gateway and power supply of some sort, or is the ATIOS your dali gateway?
Do i need anything in addition to the Atios and my Dali ceiling lights? I dont have the lights yet.
You might want to read a bit about Dali before making such kind of investment decisions
You need a power supply for the Dali bus.
The Atios is a gateway in the sense that it bridges between Dali and HomeKit (which can be easily integrated in HA).
Personally I would never want to have something like HA to be the only control device of my lights. Because I do not want to tap on my wall mounted tablet (which runs the HA interface) or even get my smartphone to control my lights. I want to have physical buttons or rotary dimmers. For me, HA is like an âadd onâ on top, e. g. for scenes, automation etc. But thatâs just my personal preference.
Disclaimer: I am working for Atios in Switzerland.
Our Atios SmartCore supports control of DALI Lights (DT6, DT7, DT8, Adress and Group control) and DALI-2 Keypads. Pairing to Home Assistant can be done via HomeKit or Matter, certified since October 2023.
Even though our alternative product Atios KNX Bridge supports DALI as well, we recommend to use Atios SmartCore. This includes 12x Relay outputs, that can be controlled with DALI buttons. And vice versa it has 12x binary inputs (8V DC to 230V AC) that can control DALI loads.
I saw you mention you control the lights thru Node Red - do you use the regular DALI-2 IoT version (art. no. 89453886) or the one with built-in Node Red server (art. no. 89453886)? Which integration you use exactly to connect Home Assistant to the gateway? Some custom component?
Hi @foxtrot ,
I use a standalone node red installation in my home server (proxmox).
Regarding the connection, the input (dali to nodered) is done by a websocket node, while the output (Nodered to dali) is done by an http connection node.
Let me know if you need help to configure it.
Ciao
We recently implemented emulated support for Lunatone DALI-2 IoT in our Atios SmartCore device. Meaning you can use the Lunatone DALI Cockpit Software to access your physical DALI bus via Atios SmartCore over IP and address and configure your whole system. See attached screenshot. So 1x Atios SmartCore basically replaces the following set of Lunatone hardware:
- DALI-2 IoT Gateway
- DALI-2 PS
- 12x DALI-2 RM16 / 3x DALI-2 4xRM16 / 6x DALI Jalousie
And you can natively integrate into Home Assistant without the need for another NodeRED entity or similar.
@mailgoe
I need some understanding from you.
Currently I have KNX IP gateway and KNX DALI Gateway.
Around 30 DALI2 ballast (drivers) are connected to DALI bus.
I use ETS to configure DALI ballasts and map KNX address.
And then KNX integration in HA to connect these lights in HA.
Question, if I get Atios SmartCore, it will replace KNX IP gateway and DALI KNX gateway. I do not have any other KNX devices except DALI KNX gateway.
Would it be possible for me to get rid of KNX IP gateway and KNX Dali gateway and just use Atios Smartcore to control DALI LED ballasts from HA?
Would i require any other hardware or tool?
Let me know.
Thanks
Sorry @sanket, somehow I did not receive a notification about that message.
Correct, you can use Atios SmartCore for:
- easy DALI configuration from local web interface
- native HA support via Matter
- integrated DALI Power Supply
- optional: support for DALI-2 sensors
- optional: use 12V DC or 230V AC inputs
- optional: use 16A relay outputs to control heating, doors, etc.
and get completely rid of:
- KNX Power Supply
- KNX DALI Gateway
- Tideous ETS Programming
And you do not require anything else.
Iâve become an even more happy Atios SmartCore user. While I had mentioned that dimming via another device (e.g. a Lunatone rotary controller) would not be reflected in HA, this has been implemented by now.
So I can confirm that this works exactly in the way I expect. I can control my Dali lights via HA or via other Dali controllers (e.g. Lunatone MC and Rot, Eltako Dali-Enocean Gateway). All actions are always reflected in HA. So everything is always in sync, no matter how I extend my system.
Also nice with the SmartCore: the DC/AC inputs and the relays. This lets you read the status of your lock/door and control stuff like blinds etc. Either via Dali/KNX actuators or anything else connected to HA.
Something else worth mentioning: PoE. I donât need any AC to DC converter to power the SmartCore. And if you donât have a Dali power supply yet, SmartCore does that job, too. You can turn on and off SmartCoreâs Dali power supply.
Thinking about the nightmare I had with stuff like the ADF, installing and configuring the Atios is kind of plugânâplay. Connect it and do everything else via a modern web interface.
Since I had already a running Dali setup, I havenât used SmartCoreâs Dali configuration features. But they seem to be nice.
Disclaimer: As written in my initial post, I met the Atios guys and first got a device for testing. By now, I purchased three of them (for my three Dali lines). So Iâm not affiliated with them in any way. Just a big fan of their product.
Check out my initial post to learn more about my setup:
I am buying 2 of these, also. Great product!
I am hoping the Matter integration implies each DALI-2 control gear, control device, group, scene, and bus broadcast get an IP address.
And I must say the Atios team have been exceptionally responsive, helpful, and consultative at every interaction. Thanks @mailgoe for the posts that brought this to my attention!
