Yes I have searched and yes I have found threads, but they just confuse me more. I just want an automation that at sunrise, it sets my screen to light mode, as shown below.
At sunset, I want it to be in dark mode. As shown below. I see a lot of threads saying themes, etc. I dont get why the theme has anything to do with this. I just want the light or dark mode radio button to be toggled in my settings picture I posted at top of thread.
However in Auto mode HA will respect the light/dark preference of your device/OS. So maybe there is something in the device where you can change the preference based on day/night cycle. But that’s beyond the scope of HA.
Yeah the problem is my device (wall tablet) ONLY changes from light/dark when the screen is off. Well its an always on wall tablet that I want always on.
I’d have to write another automation to temporarily turn the screen off (via fully kiosk browser), then turn it back on, then restart the browser window to get it to change modes. I have tested this and it does work, but problem i dont know if what my tablet considers sunrise/sunset is in line with with HA does, and I dont really have a way to figure it out easily.
So I was hoping I could just do it all through HA…but maybe not? I mean I can go on the tablet right now, which is in light mode, and turn my HA into dark mode. Wonder why I cant automate that.
Light/dark setting is client specific. There’s no automation action that can change the settings of a specific device.
It’s been sometimes requested for a feature to have a “default” light/dark mode, similar to how there is a default theme, but it’s never been implemented.
