I am new to Home Assistant. I am one of the folks who came over after the death of insteon. I installed seven z wave switches and they were all working fine, but yesterday I noticed that one is no longer working. I don’t understand what any of this means yet, but for each switch I installed, three entities were created: the switch itself, a node and a node ping.
The node for this switch is “node 7”. When I go to the node entity, it is “dead”. I can’t find anything I can do with it. I have gone to the “node 7 ping” and have pressed the ping button and bar on history changes color and it puts a cryptic message on the log, but that is it. The switch entity doesn’t give me much I can do, but the switch device lets me interview it and heal it. Neither does any good.
Any suggestions as to how I proceed? Do I delete the device and re-add it? I’m not even sure how to do delete it and do also need to delete the node and node ping?
I don’t know if this makes a difference, but this switch is in an electrical box with two other z wave switches and the other two are working fine.
Are you asking if I tried to reconfigure the device? How would I do that? There is a “Configure device” link on the page that shows Device info, but because the device doesn’t work, that link doesn’t show anything. Because I am new to HA, I have poked around and looked at things, and I have looked at that for switches but I haven’t changed anything in there. Are you thinking I changed something and that killed the node?
How do I unpair. There is a remove “Remove failed device” link. Do I use that? Does that take care of the node and the node ping or do I just not worry about that. That is on the HA end. Do I need to do a reset on the switch?
Gosh if it breaks that fast. I installed this new three weeks ago. Looking at the history it seems that it stopped working a week and a half ago. So it worked for a week and a half. At almost $50 a switch, I won’t be going back to leviton if they break that fast.
There is a remove device option in the integration-> zwavejs - configure. Obviously this works when the device is ot broken. If broken just select the device and select “remove failed device”.
I did the “Remove Failed Device” and to answer my own question, it did remove the failed node and the node ping.
I added it back in and it works fine. I am glad for that. I know devices fail, but one week?! I have had twenty insteon switches and three keypads for ten years. Not one has failed.
