Deadbolts That Don't Need Apps?

Are there any deadbolts that don’t need apps? The whole point of HA, for me, is to not download hundreds of data collecting apps. But the Yale Lock requires an app, the Schlage required an app, every light I try requires an app.

Is there a list or wiki somewhere of hardware that doesn’t require you to download, and hand over data, to their apps?

I think you missed the whole point of how HA works… sure you might need an app to initially setup a device to get it connected to wifi or whatever wireless system it uses, but after that they will work directly with HA without the need to ever use the vendor app again. In many cases (eg: Z-Wave or Zigbee devices) there is no need for a vendor app at all.

I didn’t use an app to set up my Zwave Kwikset Smartcode 914 locks in Home Assistant. Using an app wasn’t even an option.

I guess, zigbee or z-wave devices are the most probable options.

Simply check here: https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/supported-devices/ for zigbee devices.

Search for a lock/bolt and read a description. There should be an indication if it needs an app/cloud or not.

For z-wave devices look here: https://devices.zwave-js.io/

Don’t forget matter/thread devices since all you need to do is scan the QR code with the companion app to add them to the instance you have setup.

Though will be a little more time to have them flesh out the market in terms of saturation options.

All of the exterior doors i have are Kwikset ZWave deadbolts. No app was needed and with their SmartKey setup I was able to easily pin them all to a single physical key also.

Yeah as I said, no app was needed for my zwave Kwikset locks.

Did everyone miss this?

Hence my reply to add to those mentioning them xD

I haven’t tried Kwikset so I’ll try those next, but everything you can buy in a store (and therefore easily return if it requires a bs app) doesn’t use Zigbee or Zwave or anything. It’s all specific apps =(

My reply is confirming for the OP what others have said. Nothing missed. Zwave or Zigbee is likely the way to go.

OP - Even the Zwave or Zigbee locks may have instructions discussing the vendor app. But you dont HAVE to use it.

No brick and mortar store stocks these models, but these two links have been life savers right now for not having to buy/return things:
