EDIT: This has nothing to do with yaml vs storage mode as I thought.
All of our dashboards are in yaml mode, except one that I keep in storage mode to do quick tests on to be able to see live updates in the UI. This also means that the default dashboard for everyone is the storage mode Overview dashboard. It seems that if I make too many changes to our main mobile dashboards, the companion app completely forgets that it’s supposed to be the fefault, and reverts back to Overview. I’m ok with this but my wife doesn’t understand why she sometimes sees the correct dashboard and sometimes not, and she has a hard time jumping through the hoops to disable kiosk mode to get into the companion app settings to change the default back.
If you go into “Settings > Dashboards” in the companion app, you can tap on the dashboard and then tap “set as default on this device”. That helps, but I wouldn’t say it’s bulletproof.
BTW I don’t believe it’s related to YAML vs storage dashboards. The dashboard preference is stored as a cookie, so if cookies are cleared it is lost.
Ahh interesting, I had always done it by tapping on the username at the bottom of the sidebar, choosing the default dashboard from the dropdown there. Do you know if those are the same setting?
I opened the iOS companion 15 minutes ago at home, and it went to the right dashboard, and just now I opened it at work and it went back to the system wide default Overview.
So you’re right that this has nothing to do with YAML mode, and it also has nothing to do with editing of the dashboard as I thought. Must be a cookie persistence issue or something like that? I should probably write this up again in the appropriate category…
Thanks gonna check that out. I don’t have an issue with setting it per device btw, but the persistence of that setting, it seems to reset just by moving between wifi networks.
That’s weird, it should remember the preference in some way (cookie or maybe something different on phones). Only thing I can think of, that there is a difference between the internal URL or external URL of you look at cookies.
Were you able to resolve this? I’ve always had this issue and it drives me bonkers. It’s usually ok when I’m on my home WIFI, but seems to reset when I’m connecting externally.
