Deleted Automation Still Active, Help Tracking Down

I’ve been running HA for quite awhile now. I suspect I picked up an irritating bug in an old version, not sure exactly when, though.

The gist is I have an automation that I know I deleted, but it’s still triggering. I’ve been trying to find it and there’s zero trace of it. I’ve found other topics that are similar, but none of them have led me to the solution. If it helps, I know with certainty the device that it’s triggering from and that does still exist.

  • It’s not in automations.yaml, it also wasn’t a manually created automation
  • It’s also not in the standard automations page
  • The automation isn’t referenced in the device/entity
  • It’s not in the entities page, even with all filters removed
  • Can’t find it in DevTools->States
  • I perform regular database maintenance, weekly

Anything else that you can think of that I should check?

I could probably change the name of the entity, but I’d prefer not to do that if possible.

Thanks a bunch! I have very few total mysteries with HA, so this one’s kind of surprising me.

hi Jeff,
I’m facing exactly the same issue. Did you find a solution?
I’ve got a Aqara FP2 and I changed the location of where I put it and made the new zones for the living room in the aqara app. It worked fine for a month. A couple days ago I realized that all of a sudden the deleted automations are triggered together with the new ones. There are no such automations in the automation.yaml. I’m sure that I haven’t a second instance running or something… It drives me crazy…

I even tried to restore core to the older version. Nothing helped.

I have the same issue but I deleted Home Assist. How can I see all my automations without re-installing the whole of Home Assist? Thanks.

Same here, I changed an automation in a yaml file, but even after a reboot it can still be triggered with the Hue button I removed from the automation. The id of the button is nowhere to be found in any automation.

I’m my case it was an automation using my phone (leaving home zone), but I reinstalled the app and re-registered my device again without deleting it before. So I couldn’t find the automation when viewing my mobile phone under devices and services, but I could see the automation under Settings → Automations & Scenes and then delete it.

I know this is different from the problems described here but I stumbled across this thread while searching for a solution to my problem.

Back when I started playing with HA (about 5 years ago) I had a similar issue, turns out I had set up the automation first with the Alexa app, then did a similar automation in HA. I deleted the HA automation but parts of it where still running. Like you guys I couldn’t figure out what was going on, until I remembered I had used Alexa app to set up some automations, and that is what was running the automations not HA.
