I have been using the AsusWRT device tracker for some time with an automation that sets all my security cameras to an armed state when no one is home. This has worked brilliantly and reliably. I was reading the release notes for 2021.3.3 and I see AsusWRT has been replaced with a new device tracker implentation (ScannerEntity)
Is there a guide on how to set this up? I would like to attempt it on a test rig I have before doing it for real
There’s no problem setting up [1], just delete the asuswrt part from the configuration.cfg file, restart, add in integrations, possible restart I can’t remember. Job done.
[1] I don’t know if it was related, but I had to delete a phone from the integrations and then re-add it as it wasn’t behaving as it should.
I tried the following on my test machine (changed platform: netgear) and when I checked the config it threw up an error until I changed it back to netgear. I have an Asus router, does this work with Asus devices?
Ok I got it working with the info I posted above including my username & password for my router. I had to leave the platform: netgear but it did work even with my Asus router.
Before I made the changes I renamed the known_devices.yaml to see if it created a new one but it didn’t and provided I had the right tracker set under myself in “persons” in configuration it still set me to away when I turned off the wifi on my phone and back to home when the phone reconnected to my wifi network
Hi again I’ve been running with the asuswrt: still in my config, however I’ve just commented it out and had a reboot and it seems like you don’t need any of that.
So, try with commenting out all of the above and reboot, works fine for me.
Thank you,
I will give it a go. I have a feeling it uses the device tracker that comes as part of the entities that are installed from the HA app. I always do an update on my test rig first to see what if anything breaks before I am brave enough to update my main machine lol
I will test this today. I take it from your username you are in the UK? I am an expat living in Canada
