Device didn't get added properly and now I can't delete it, use it, or re-add it

Hi,

For some reason one of my devices (NYCE 3041 motion sensor) didn’t get added properly and now I can’t delete it (only option is add to lovelace - which doesn’t work either). I have several of these sensors that added just fine so I don’t know what the problem is.

Thanks,

Try restarting your Home Assistant OR reloading the integration.

I rebooted the host but that didn’t help.

There’s another option but HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED. This can be achieved by going to /config/.storage/core.device_registry/ and manually deleting the device there.

Warning! It may break your Home Assistant. Create a full backup before attempting to edit any files inside /config/.storage/. The files there are not meant to be edited manually.

How do I edit that? From the web UI?

I recommend deleting the ZHA integration and redo the pairing process again (unless you have hundreds of paired devices). Editing /config/.storage/core.device_registry/ manually is EXTREMELY RISKY.

Too many devices to repair. I’ll try the device_registry first but how do I go about that?

The /config/.storage/ folder is hidden. So, you’ll need to enable “Hidden Item” in your Files Explorer.
Please know that it is EXTREMELY RISKY and NOT RECOMMENDED.

Goodluck

I can’t even create a backup:

Creating a backup is not possible right now because the system is in startup state.

I let it set without batteries for over an hour and for whatever reason it added this time.

I haven’t found any solution to the backup issue though.
