Especially with evolving voice assistants, caring for your devices data / metadata becomes more important than ever.
Rooms should be configured correctly, Names, ID’s etc. should be configured within the Device / Entity Data and not only on the dashboard, alternative Names for voice should be set, tags should be added…
All these features come in super handy but when you have an older instance with devices and entities that were there before these features came (or you were too excited about your new device and didn’t have the patience to add everything) it’s a pain to open each device / each entity individually to edit them.
I would love for a feature within the devices and entities lists, that lets you select from the list and then open a “Data Maintenance” GUI.
Basically I’m thinking of a UI that, when opened, lets you choose between bulk-edit and single-edit.
Single-edit displays one entity / device at a time. You can quickly switch between the current, previous or next device with the arrow keys or arrow buttons.
For each entity it shows the name and all the important editable form fields at a glance and ideally without any sub-menus.
Bulk-edit displays the form fields that all selected devices have in common and that aren’t individual (like room and tags for example).
Changes should be saved automatically when switching to the next entity or, in case that’s too “dangerous”, by a quick keyboard-shortcut like “S”.
So basically you would be able to filter and select certain entities and then supplement their metadata, ideally, without even having to use the mouse.
I think this would make maintaining your devices a lot easier for people!
