Most of us are now using tags to tag devices so that automations and stuff have a tag to reference and not a fixed device. This is very useful for example on mobile phones, so that when you change your main phone, everything keeps working normally as all automations etc refer to a tag such as ‘Joe Mobile’.
However, it seems that Home Assistant is not yet ready for this as in most of the UI, you cannot search by the tag.
My Air Fryer is tagged as ‘Air Fryer’ as the kitchen socket it is connected to may change. I want to be able to lookup the device by tag, and also for home assistant to refer the tag and not the actual device so that if it’s positiion changess, no remapping needs to be done
Entity IDs do this already - new phone, give it the same entity_ids as the old one. Job done. Tags (I assume you mean labels?) just add a third layer of complexity which I’m pretty sure “most people” can do without.
