Device Naming Help - Understanding Entity ID, Entity ID domain, Friendly Name?

I am beginning to migrate easy device’s and corresponding automations over from ST. This is my second full blown attempt to give it an honest try and push through configuration issues.

One thing that I am still having a hard time understanding is the Entity ID property. For example, I have a fair amount of Z-wave devices (50-60) I will be moving over. Many of them are the same device. I know when I add them, I can go to the Entity Registry and easily rename the device’s friendly name one by one to be unique/more easily identifiable.

What I am unsure of, and is giving me cause for concern, is how the Entity ID domain is going to look when I have 5-7+ of the same devices. It seems like in NodeRed, the entity ID domain is what is presented from HASS, not the friendly name I configure. Is there something I can do so I can easily identify stuff as opposed to a bunch of switch.aeotec_zw096_smart_switch_6_switch

  1. you cannot change the DOMAIN (switch. in this case), so your entity ID has to have the DOMAIN in it.

  2. You should not have spaces OR capital letters in your entity ID.

  3. Simply name it switch.master_bedroom_under_bed_lighting_switch

Good grief - thank you. I don’t know how I overlooked the domain portion “switch.” “light.” staying the same, but then renaming (no space/caps) the suffix portion after that. I was trying to do the whole shebang.
