Hi. I know this is not an uncommon problem, but when it’s happened to me in the past, I’ve been able to resolve it by excluding and then re-including,
In this case, I am trying to add a Zoos ZEN04 smart switch. I’ve added a few others in the past without incident, but this time, even after exclusion and a second attempt at inclusion, it’s listing itself as an unknown product. Some of the configuration options are different than they should be.
I’m including screenshots of what it looks like and what it should look like based on a successful inclusion of an idential product.
If id 113 indeed is a zooz, you really have to include it again. Exclude befoer and make device factory reset. Just try a few times, if you’re certain it’s zooz, it will come up as zooz in the end
It’s definitely a Zoos ZEN04 smart switch. I’ve now excluded, factory reset, and then included several times, all with the same result. It shows up as an unknown device as shown in the screenshot in my original post.
Sounds like something is going wrong in the Interview process. If it were me I’d re-interview an existing working ZEN04 and then this device and compare the logs between the two.
FWIW, poor communications can cause this type of symptom. If it persists, move the device closer and try again.
UPDATE: Well this has become quite interesting. I reached out to Zooz and described the issue. They asked for a picture of the front and back of the errant device. I took those pics and the light bulb went off. The back of my device, which I took out of a Zooz ZEN04 box yesterday, is labeled as a Versa LAMP ZW2, a dimmable lamp plug. I checked one of my other ZEN04s and it is branded as Zooz.
I received an immediate reply:
" Thank you for those details!
This is not a ZEN04 device; it is a Versa device and is being identified correctly by Home Assistant. While it looks just like our ZEN04, our devices are labeled with our Zooz logo and device information on the back.
Please let us know if you have any questions going forward!"
I replied it was very odd that the 5-digit DSK Pin on the Zooz box and the Versa device were the same.
She then asked for me to exclude and include the device again so I could capture the complete DSK on the Versa device. It matches the printed label on the Zooz box exactly.
I might suspect both devices are manufactured by the same overseas manufacturer and somehow something got mixed up. But one says made in China; the other, Vietnam. I wonder if I am the only one in the world this happened to. I am waiting to hear back and will post here for those interested.
It does. I based my original comment on the fact that I opened a factory-sealed Zooz box labeled as and containing a device that from the front and sides looks identical to a ZEN04 and also contained an instruction sheet for the ZEN04.
I confess that I did not turn the device over and note that it was something different than was in the box.
It works as a Versa, and as a lamp dimmer, will actually work better than the ZEN04 binary smart plug for china cabinet lighting.
I have always had very good luck with Zooz products, and their customer service is outstanding. This morning, I received this email from them:
"Thank you for those details!
We were able to confirm with our manufacturing team that the Versa plug was manufactured at the same factory that produces our ZEN04, so this is a factory-level mishap. To ensure a smooth replacement, can you please confirm the shipping address below?"
Wow, crazy story. I wonder if Zooz is wondering (panicking?) how many of their boxes have Versa branded products inside. It’s the same form factor but different features? I could kind of understand if the printing on the device was just for the wrong brand, but different device but DSK matches?
Yeah, very weird. Same form factor. As I mentioned, the first response from Zooz kind of dumped it back in my lap by inferring it wasn’t their problem. Only after questioning the DSK on the Zooz box matching the DSK of the Versa device during install did they reach out and offer a replacement.
