Hi,
I just installed a Netgear Wifi range extender in my house. It creates two new SSID’s, myrouterssid_2GEXT and myrouterssid_5GEXT. When I connect to any of the extensions, HA’s device_tracker can’t detect me.
Is there a way to make this work for all three SSID’s?
my router is huawei, enable dhcp, enable bridge.
my wifi extender is d-link. disable dhcp, enable bridge.
Both aboved have the same name and password for ssid.
device_tracker can be huawei or nmap. host config is my router.
All devices that connect to wifi extender, if possible fix the ip of these devices and point dns to router ip not the wifi extender.
This is because some extenders (Netgear being one) changes your device’s MAC address (creates a virtual MAC address), therefore HA doesn’t see them as the same device. I don’t think there’s a way around this, unless you find out your device’s virtual MAC address and add it to HA as a secondary device tracker.
What do you mean by device’s virtual MAC address? You mean each and every device I want to track or the Netgear wifi extender MAC address? It seems that besides of having a virtual MAC address for each device, the Netgear wifi extender changes it from time to time so I see in my router many times the same device name with three or four different MAC addresses.
And besides of that, I am not able to use the Netgear device_tracker integration with my wifi extender. Does anyone do that? @tomoqv? @Sunonline? My wifi extender uses same SSID and same password as my router.
Hey all, any progress on getting functional device_trackers in conjunction with wifi extenders? I think I’m having a similar issue, but I think the extender is also preventing me from updating device names on my router.
