Did Core Update 2024.8.3 break my Tasmota/MQTT/Mosquito setup?

My Tasmota bulbs stopped working in August with lots of Mosquito errors. I’ve now rolled back to a earlier backup, and now everything is working OK (thank goodness for Rclone Backup!).

I’m now being invited to Update Core, which I think I’ll decline!

Any comments?

Jim

What version were you on ?

Core Update 2024.8.3. I rolled back to a backup I had for 1st August.

Thanks for the repy

Jim

We kind of guessed that was what you were updating to. However it is the version that you had in august (the one you rolled back to) and that you have now that determines how easy it will be to update. The big question is: how many breaking changes have been there since. First step would be to read the release notes for each major version in between to see if there was anything related to your problems.

Back in august is would have been easier to pinpoint what broke your Tasmota and fix it. Now it will be harder to figure out.

I’ve downloaded the 1st August backup. What files should I be looking at (it’s a Full Backup)?

What eversion is your HA now - so we can work out how far you are jumping because 2024.8.2 to 2024.8.3 did no such thing with identical setup regarding Tasmota/MQTT

I’m now at:
Core: 2024.7.4
Supervisor: 2024.08.0
Operating System: 13.1
Frontend: 20240710.0

There were no breaking changes for mqtt lights between 2024.7 and 2024.8, and all my Tasmota devices kept on working. So I’m on a loss here.

When I can pluck up courage, I might update the Core again.

What’s holding me back, is that when I restored the older backup the whole system became inaccessible and I couldn’t even SSH into the Pi. In the end I had to do a power cycle a couple of times. I didn’t like doing this as some systems can become corrupted (but is it safe to do on a HA installation on a Pi?).

Thanks for the replies.

2024.8 did have a database update that can take a while (first breaking change mentions it) - if your system is somewhat underpowered I can imagine you might experience some problems while that is still running. Did you give it time to complete the database update?

I can’t remember. My system is on a Pi 3, so it’s probably underpowered.
