Did I ruin my new bulbs?

Tell me more! I have a smart plug but I don’t know how to code stuff though.

I don’t have a Hue remote unfortunately…

He most likely created a script or automation to emulate the sequence for resetting the bulbs.

Not the best of coding, but it does the trick

resetpow:
  sequence:
  - service: switch.turn_on
    data:
      entity_id: switch.ikeaoutlet4
  - delay:
      seconds: 2

My first thought was ‘How the hell should I use this?’ But I figured it out. I would have never thought of this trick! It’s really cool! Now I can sit on my sofa and let the neighbours think I have an OCD
But it didn’t work :exploding_head:

I’m gonna repeat it one more time: you have to figure out what the right procedure is to reset your bulbs!
This example that @francisp shared might not be suitable for your bulbs.
I have IKEA bulbs and the advise is to keep the switching on VERY short and as soon you start to see any light switch them off.

If I read the docs well, it should be on for 5 secs at start, and the on/off should be 1/2 sec intervals, so indeed very fast.

I haven’t searched for any info, except on the zigbee2mqtt website where there is no guideline for these bulbs but OP mentioned 2 different processes so he has to figure out first what is needed for his bulbs…

I’ve also experienced tons of annoyance with Zigbee devices that are a royal pain you know where to reset. My advice to self is to get Z-Wave stuff whenever possible.

Somewhere near your Zigbee hub or dongle, plug the light into an outlet strip and flick the switch 6X. Works for me every time with Ikea lights.

I followed the reset method in the manual. Used the script with different delays between on / off. They do not reset. So yesterday I finally gave up and send them back as defect. I’m done and I want other bulbs!
Thank you all for replying and helping me!

Here’s another idea. Don’t use smart bulbs.
Unless you NEED color control, then just use dumb bulbs (much cheaper) and a smart switch.

I looked into smart switches but I don’t think that’s a good idea. I have never ever worked on a socket before. I don’t know anything about electrics, wires and stuff. I’m also renting this place so… I’ll stick to bulbs for now :hugs:

Philips Hue. Buy (or borrow) a single dimmer switch at the same time (RWL022).

The dimmer switch can be used to put any Hue bulb into pairing mode. Turn the light on, then hold the switch as close as you can to it. Press and hold the top and bottom buttons on the switch together for about 10 seconds or until the bulb flashes.

You don’t have to- at least for table-top lamps. Just plug one of these in:

$10 each on Amazon.

Just ordered those

They work on fans, too. They are rated at 15 Amps, but I would never exceed 10 Amps for safety. I have about a dozen of these around my house which forms the backbone of my Zigbee network.

Ok. Amps. Another thing I have to dive into :rofl:

If you have a light rated at 10 Amps- you would know it. Most LED bulbs only draw about 100mA.

The caution is if you connect a window air-conditioner to it, you could be flirting with 10-15 Amps.
