Difference between Sonoff BasicR2 vs BasicR3?

Hey there, thanks for reading-

I’m looking for an inexpensive simple wifi switch that will do nothing more then turn on/off a short led light strip for nightlight purposes. I already have some of the sonoff products, and find they work good considering price.

What is the difference between the Sonoff BasicR2 and BasicR3?
I found this link provided by Sonoff – SONOFF BASICR2 Vs BASICR3: DIY Mode and More Features - ITEAD STUDIO OFFICIAL

Aside from the new improved plastic, wire fasteners, and rf signal… is there anyone with real world experience that can say the R3 is better then the R2 for my scenario/use and spending the extra couple bucks?

Just trying to save a buck or two… worth it?
Other suggestions?

Thanks!

The basicr2 needs an FTDI for flashing, the basicr3 can be flashed OTA by enabling diy mode.

So you probably have already a FTDI. I did not spend the extra money on the R3.

Thanks for the info. I’m sure it probably says that somewhere and i missed it. The product pages at itead aren’t exactly an easy read.
I did flash tasmota, but I didn’t get a ftdi. a buddy suggested just using my raspi.
I should get one. anything happens to the raspi i’ll be angry i didn’t
