I am planning to make a digital photo frame, using a Raspberry Pi connected to a 27" monitor. The goal would be to
play images randomly from a folder
if there is movement on one of the cameras, show the camera for a few seconds
sometimes show some sensors data randomly between pictures (e.g. all the temp and humidity sensors on one screen)
I have a motion sensor in the room where this frame will be. I am planning to turn off the screen if there is no movement in the room for a while. I am planning to do this simply with a smart plug.
Any suggestions, ideas on how to approach this goal? Do you think I can do this with a dedicated dashboard and views?
I’ve seen something like this from one of the prominent Home Assistant Youtuber, but right now i can’t remember who! I’m sure they used it to show movie posters when Netflix was selected etc. I’ll do some digging and update this when I find it!
I’ve had a similar dream for my Apple TV.
To show the Apple Photos screensaver, then like you said if an event occurs play a camera for a few seconds, at some interval show a specific Lovelace view designed for summary info.
All while the state is idle.
I’ve thought about converting to Android TV to just Cast something like this but I’d have to forgo Apple’s excellent photos screensaver. (When it’s not showing blank photos because… who knows…)
After installing a small headless operating system, configure the RPiZ startup, sharing the RPiZ disk via Samba and adding it into your home-assistant as Media, all you have to do is upload any files you want into that Media via HASS user interface.
