I would like to have my bedroom window lightbulb to turn on at a specific time before sundown but then have it dim down in several steps during the evening/night. How can I create an automation that does this?
It may be easier to use the custom component for circadian lighting instead. Then you just have to turn it on with a time trigger, and the component will handle the changing brightness.
@Tinkerer
Or better use the new, imo better adaptive lighting custom component that’s based on the circadian lighting component.
I’ve heard rumor that adaptive lighting will be a core component soon? If that is so, and one is “lazy” or in no rush, it may be worthwhile to just wait for the next release.
What kind of lighting technology does it use?
Some support transitions natively. In other words, you only need to tell the device you want it to dim to 25% over a period of 2 hours and it takes of doing it all by itself. Home Assistant doesn’t need to periodically send a command to decrease brightness because the device handles the transition natively.
