I’m about to buy about 30 dimmers for a new construction project (roughly 3700 sq ft) and want to limit my headaches. Although I already have various hubs I’m not considering this in my equation because the cost of the dimmers is going to be high.
Right now I’m looking at z-wave, wemo, & lutorn caseta for the protcols. I’m also open to others. My only requirement is that they interop easily with HASS.
If there are any dimmers that I should avoid like the plague then that is very important.
I don’t have much experience with all of the options out there but I know that I would be leery of the Aeotec micro and nano series.
I’ve had some bad luck with them over the last several months. I think i’ve bought 5 of the micro’s and one nano. I’ve had to return 2 of the micro’s for replacement and just did a straight return of the nano. I couldn’t keep them paired with the (ironically…) Aeotec Z-stick Gen 5 I’m using. they would just drop off the network then I would have to go through the hassle of removing the failed node, factory reset the devices and re-add them. which afterwards, entailed me having to rewrite my configs to fix the fact that they were added with a different node ID. it was definitely a PITA.
And one of the ones I didn’t return for a replacement is now starting to act screwy. Sometimes when it is told to turn off it doesn’t report back it’s status properly so HA thinks it’s still on so the display is incorrect. then the only way to fix it is to turn it off from the toggle and it finally corrects itself.
the others I got thru the returns are OK tho. I wouldn’t have a problem buying a few at a time and dealing with it but to buy a bunch would make me nervous.
