Disable default Add-on snapshot on updates

It would be great if you could make the snapshot toggle default to off, when updating addons, as it’s not always necessary to backup addons, and having to manually toggle each time when updating becomes quite annoying.

Many thanks

I think having it default to on is a good thing.

It makes me think this before switching it off…

  • How long will the backup take, i.e. is it a big addon like InfluxDB or MariaDB?
  • Do I have another recent backup already?
  • How bad would it be if it went wrong?
  • Can I live with it being offline for a few days while it is fixed?

Only once I have considered all this and found the risk acceptable do I go ahead without making a backup.

Having the switch off by default risks shorting out this considered approach and potential disaster.

There used to be many posts asking how to roll back an addon update. Since the introduction of a default backup I haven’t seen any.

Safety trumps convenience.

I understand where you are coming from, but maybe you could add an option only appear when enabling Advance mode as a compromise?

From there on, the user will be reliable for any data loss.

Thanks

This seems even more relevant now with the new update mechanism. I hate seeing the badge there, so I’m prompted to update, but I keep forgetting to uncheck the backup, which adds 30 minutes to the process.

As an alternative, the update could be cancellable while the backup was being performed.

I would also like an option to have the backup off as default
