I will be replacing my dishwasher soon. Are there any brands out there which have smart features that HA supports? Locally would be better, but I’ll take anything.
I monitor the energy through a smart plug. The only useful thing i guess would be to make the dishwasher run through HA.
I imagine that would add some cost to the price of the dishwasher.
Genuine question: What is there to gain by being able to run it remotely (given you need to be there to add the last item and put the detergent in etc)? As you are using an energy monitoring smart plug, you can always use that to tell you when it has finished (as energy will go to almost zero at the end).
Most modern dish washers should have this functionality already, even without being smart or with HA integration - delayed start.
I set my Siemens dish washer up all ready and select the desired programme, then select the delay in hours when it should start, go to sleep and it does its job when the selected timer has counted down.
If that is your only criteria you can save quite a bit on just getting one with the delayed start, but without any further smart integration.
Mine doesn’t open automatically, which is good, as opening it right after the cycle isn’t recommended at all, to avoid harming the surrounding kitchen cabinets and for a better drying result.
This all really does depend on the kind of drying cycle technology and what the interior is made of, stainless steel or plastic
You could implement a delayed start using HA using a power monitor plug.
You could start the cycle, immediately switch the dishwasher off and then switch it back on when rates are cheaper. It should just pick up where it left off in the cycle…at least that’s my understanding of how most dishwashers work
So smart dishwasher or not, is there any make / model out there that would pop the door open ajar when the cycle is done?
I mean, let’s say the idea here is to let the dishwasher run overnight to conserve energy… that means we are not in a hurry to get those dishes, that means we do not absolutely need to dry the dishes via internal heaters at the end of the cycle… So to conserve energy further, popping open the door might just make sense.
