I’m not new to HA, I’ve been tinkering with it for a few years now. That said, I’m terrible with networks and network related issues. Recently (in the last week), I started having problems where my HA instance (installed on my windows 11 server in Oracle VM) just loses all contact with my network and the outside world. I’m only able to reach home assistant from the machine the VM is running on. If I shut down (not reset) and start the VM, everything resumes working (I use Nabu Casa for remote access). Looking through the logs I’m able to tell there’s some DNS issues going on and that’s about as far as I can figure it out. Days of searching have led me to no solutions. I’m unable to tell if it’s my router, HA, or the VM that’s causing the issue. The host logs just start showing “resolver failed to query external DNS”. The DNS logs just start showing the plugin errors/timeouts/refusals. I have no idea how to identify and interpret the issues in these logs. I’m getting pretty desperate as this is happening at least once per day.
I converted from DuckDNS to Nabu Casa about a year ago and I’m wondering if there’s something causing a conflict with the old config now but I’m unsure. It may not even be a DNS issue for all I know. I have IPv6 disabled in HA, and IPv4 is set to Automatic.
Where else can I look for issues or logs to try and figure this out? Appreciate any insight.
