Hello All. I am just getting started with Home Assistant and this is my first post.
I have on order a modest mini PC that will be my HA hub, a Zooz S2 ZWave USB stick, 3 ZWave plugs/extenders and a RATGDO that will be connected to an older Chamberlain “yellow button” garage door opener. My question is, do I also need a sensor to reliably identify the open/closed state of the garage door and if so what do folks recommend?
I haven’t touched anything home automation related in 20 plus years when I tinkered with X10. I am eager to find the time to explore what I can do with Home Assistant and the garage door opener will be my first project.
Thanks.
Agree with jerrm. But don’t rely on RATGDO for open/close in Alarmo. When it goes unknown/unavailable, the alarm goes off.
Ask my wife how we know this at 2am. So I did put door sensors on both garage doors. There might be a setting I am missing. But the IWAF (Immediate Wife Approval Factor) made me feel I needed separate sensors and remove RATGDO from Alarmo.
I use the RATGDO sensors for displays on our tablets because they show opening/closing too.
