It save us that have an Apple TV from buying another usb dongle
The question you’re really asking is whether or not the AppleTV, acting as a Thread Border Router, can expose/share its devices via Matter to Home Assistant. I am fairly certain it is technically possible per the Matter specification, but not sure if it is supported yet.
Thank you. I’m trying to build my hassio system on my pi 4. Some say get the Sonoff p model because it works better but the e has matter/thread. Then there’s the sky connect but the signals weaker without an antenna. I was looking to get a p and just use Apple TV for thread
Apple TV will have to use a Matter device standard and that might not be available yet and might never really support the features you expect from an Apple TV.
Regarding the device choice, then both ZigBee and Thread are networks based on a mesh, so antenna strength does really not mean that much.
Hi.
Is there any update here?
I have bought some Eve motionblinds which are thread/matter/homekit.
Also I have skyconnect, but having trouble connecting them to Home Assistant.
However I can connect them to Apple Tv / Homekit. I since I anyway have an Apple Tv if I could expose them other way would be nice.
If these are truly Matter based devices, then you may be able to share them from Apple Home to Home Assistant. Here are the instructions.
However, if these devices are using the earlier HomeKit over Thread protocol (i.e. not the Matter over Thread protocol), then you may not be able to share them from Apple Home to Home Assistant.
I just checked the Eve website and I am not seeing anything that specifically calls out that the Motion Blinds support Matter, yet. Just the original Apple HomeKit over Thread protocol appears to be supported.
And from another site, it sounds like Matter support is coming…
Next matter update is supposed to happen in November, but even then it is very uncertain that Apple TV will be available as a matter device.
Matter needs to have the standard for a settop box included or it will not be possible.
