The Doomsday Clock is a once-a-year indicator of how close humanity is to a man-made global catastrophe, its own destruction if you will, either through nuclear war or climate change. Makes a great addition to your fallout shelter’s Home Assistant build!
Code and installation instructions are available on Github, enjoy! …or not, as it’s kind of a depressing sensor to look at actually.
TheBulletin.org’s website has recently changed from Drupal to Wordpress, which meant that the Doomsday Clock sensor needed to be updated to find the right information again …and to be improved so as to fail gracefully whenever their website’s design changes again in the future. Done!
Also, to keep things clean I’ve moved this sensor to its own dedicated repo here:
It’s still a pretty depressing sensor to look at however.
I had a bit of a dig the other day - the regex used by the sensor doesnt account for it being expressed as seconds - if I get a chance, I’ll see if i can find a fix
Shoot. Thanks for the heads-up! I’ll update the sensor asap, using the new Countdoom Python package that I’ve been working on lately and that handles seconds properly.
