Door sensor stopped functioning: how to troubleshoot (using z2m)

Hi guys

I’m using this door/window sensor (Sonoff SNZB-04) at the entry door.

2 days ago the battery state turned to unknown, that’s also the moment it stopped functioning.
The z2m map still shows the device but without a line, just like a few other devices which do work fine.
This door sensor is about 1m from a bulb in the same area (hall) and there is only 1 door in between with an almost straight line to the coordinator: total distance 4m.
The history does show a flat 56,5% line/value from april 19, 2023

Let’s assume the battery has enough power (z2m reports it as OK): what options are there to get more insight in the situation? (just out of curiosity)
If the battery is dead:

  1. is replacing it enough to get it working again?
  2. do I need to repair the sensor?
  3. do I need to delete it before repairing (as well in HA)?
  4. anything else?

Thanks!

EDIT: I also wonder what the ‘right’ way is to troubleshoot a ‘failing’ zigbee device, especially with z2m because that adds another layer.

Usually just going through the pairing process is enough to bring it back to life. You might not even need to put the coordinator into pairing mode, I’ve had this with Aqara motion sensors, I just had to press the button to wake them, and then they started working again. Mine was caused by a series of power outages while workmen were installing solar and a heat pump. The motion sensors obviously freaked out that the bulb they had connected to had vanished and they couldn’t reach the coordinator, and basically gave up.

This is what I keep getting when trying the repair process:
