I took the plunge. It streams local, no need for a cloud service. I got it yesterday evening and tried to hook it up. It would not configure. Called support, they walked me through a few things, realized my doorbell was on 12v. So After about an hour of looking in my house for the transformer, I found that and went to lowes and got a multi volt transformer for $12 to kick it up to 24v. Replaced it this morning , configuration worked now I have the camera streaming locally and working with Zoneminder (using the onvif probing got it up and running).
I know others are looking for doorbell solution that do not require cloud. So I thought I would post my success. Know were your transformer is before you go and do this just in case.
This doorbell is sold under a bunch of different brand names (RCA, LTS, LaView, etc.) but it’s made by Hikvision. I had the same transformer issue as OP after I replaced that it work really well for recording to Zoneminder. The phone app to answer the doorbell works about 50% of the time. I honestly didn’t want it for that anyway so I just set the speaker volume to 0 through the web interface and that way they don’t get a message saying I didn’t answer. For the price and considering there’s no cloud I think it’s a good buy.
Good deal. I have a laview nvr with 4 POE cameras connected. I was able to get them working with a few different components. I use the hikvision component to expose and use the line crossing detection for a couple automations, and I use the generic camera component to show the video feeds. All off them work great.
The doorbell is connected to my laview nvr, records 24x7. I get motion alerts on the iOS app, I get button press alerts, as well. But I never answer the doorbell this way.
Anyway, what is interesting is that even though it works with the NVR, and my other cameras on the NVR work with HA, I’ve not had any success getting the video feed displaying.
It’s not the end of the world, and to me not worth setting up any more apps to get it working, just curious what is different about this camera where it does not work with the hikvision or generic camera components
I’ve been looking at this exact device as well. IIRC there’s no way to get Zoneminder to support two way audio through it, is there?
Also, has anyone found a way to have a sensor connected to the doorbell itself? Would you guys recommend the mqtt on the actual chime unit as the sensor?
