I currently use LIFX lighting in my house. While they’re high-quality and I generally like them, they’re costly and I’m not fully satisfied with the WiFi experience.
I’m building a new section upstairs and I’m deciding whether to continue with LIFX or switch to Zigbee downlights, as I already have a Zigbee network.
I’m considering a few options:
Use Zigbee RGBW downlights without regular switches.
Install basic downlights and control them with a Zigbee dimmer switch. This seems like the most straightforward, cost-effective solution.
Combine a Zigbee dimmer with smart Zigbee RGBW lights.
I’d appreciate any advice or experiences with similar setups.
I’m switching from Lifx to Clipsal Iconic dimmer and switch modules. I’m also using their dumb down lights as apparently they work best with the dimmers.
This way the wall switches work as normal no matter the state of Home Assistant. This was something that confused my guests. I know I don’t have to touch light switches and it is all automated but they seem to have trouble with it.
It is not going to be at all cheap. In fact it is going to be bloody expensive.
Also I’m not using the Iconic wall plates as they feel cheap and nasty. I’m using the behind wall modules with standard wall plates.
Seems like something like this could work for me
Yes totally agree. Also helps with me getting my partner to accept it as they are very annoyed by my home automation
