Several articles about this online already but it works so much better than I even imagined so wanted to share.
Have a circle drive that is 180’ wide where the ends meet the main road. After looking at a few options I went with the htzsafe break beam option with the old-looking white receiver. The two sensors are solar and even at 180’ were a snap to line up and get 900+ on the signal strength display. Over 100 is the goal according to the manual.
So far they have acted perfectly and trigger quickly.
I settled on the Zen17 to bridge the technology gap and am thoroughly impressed with it as well.
The receiver has dry contacts for 4 zones.
The zone 1 contacts are hooked into the Zen 17 input # 1 contacts. For my use I’ve separated the #1 contacts from the #1 relay since I don’t need the relay itself currently. The #1 contacts have been set (via config) as a motion sensor.
Now anytime the driveway beams are broken, the motion sensor is activated and my automation (lights and tts) kicks off.
Pretty much plug and play. A few options for driveway alarm choices but the htzsafe seemed like the best bang for the buck.
I went with the 3 beam, round top style.
My concern with not using their receiver would just be the redundancy situation. Being able to still hear the chime from their receiver even if HA is down, is a big plus for me.
If that’s not a big deal then I think using the RTL-433 sounds like a fun project. Worst case you can buy the sensors and if something doesn’t work quite right, can always buy just the receiver or another kit and then monitor two locations.

I am still very happy with the sensors (even without the HA integration). There has only been one false positive and that was when it was a heavy snow/ice mix.
Yes, that’s the one. I bought mine off eBay but didn’t see a model number.
There’s probably cheaper out there but may be lacking the same feature set. Good luck and let us know if you find another option.
These are still going strong and still a key part of my security.
Past couple of nights we’ve had heavy fog that set them off a few times.
Plugged the base unit into a smart plug so will be setting up some logic to turn it off for X hours when weather reports fog or something like that.
Hi. I managed to do the same with a Shelly relay 1. I have a question though. I notice that after the beam is interrupted, the relay is re-initialized maybe after 40 seconds. That delay is a bit too long for me. Is it the same for you?
Yeah, I think default is 60s. Supposedly jumper 4 inside the case controls this with the settings being 1s, 10s, 60s, 5min.
If you change it, let me know how it goes. I’ve never popped the case open.
Hello, sorry to dig up an old thread but having read the guidance I think I’m doing the right thing.
I am interested in knowing how you rigged up the Shelly Relay 1, as this is what I’m trying to do but falling foul of my ignorance. What power supply are you using, and how do you wire up to the HTZsafe?
I have had 2 of the HB-T804 driveway sensors and the base station working quite well!
However I think my base station has died and so now I’m trying to receive trigger messages using a WL101-541 RF 433 receiver. Anyone know if this will work or maybe have some pointers?

I am looking to set up the Shelly 1 relay with the HTZSafe driverway motion sensor.
Are you able to sharte how you wired this up to the Shelly 1?
And also what settings you set in the Shelly App to achieve notification in Home Assistant when the driveway sensor is triggered?
