Hello everyone. I would need some help. My system consists of a main router (with address 192.188.188.1) to which an additional router (fritzbox 5590 with address 192.168.1.1) is connected to which the entire home network including Home Assistant (192.168.1.70:8123) is connected. I can’t figure out how to set up port forwarding (on the primary router or secondary router?). Can anyone help me? Thank you very much
Hi Cariddi74,
Segmented networks are not officially supported within HA.
HA is designed and expects a flat subnet to work as intended.
This is because every segmented network is different for IP’s and number of segments and firewalls and sharing rules and about 650495849085 other things.
This does not mean you can’t use them or that they can’t be made to work, it means that to get them working you are the support structure on your own subnet(s) and if you are asking for support in the future, you should disclose to the volunteer helping you that this is in use as it often changes the correct answers.
Please keep this in mind when you are trying to do this kind of thing.
Why on earth would you use 2 routers??
But…to answer your question…
- you need to forward port 8123 on 192,168,1,1 to 192.168.1.70
- you need to forward port 8123 on 192.188.188.1 to 192.168.1.1
So from the internet, all traffic on port 8123 will be forwarded from 192.188.188.1 to 192.168.1.1
All traffic on port 8123 on 192,168,1,1 will be forwarded to 192.168.1.70
Otherwise known as ‘double NATing’
First question is probably: why? Are you sure you need multiple subnets, and even this different? It seems like you should first understand if this is the network separation you need.
