End of Smart Features for ecobee Switch+ Light Switch
As of March 2, 2027, most Switch+ smart features will stop working. Switch+ will continue to work as a regular light switch and can be added to the Apple Home app via iOS on iPhone or iPad before or after March 2. However, it will no longer appear in the ecobee app or work with voice assistants or other third-party integrations (details below).
This article explains what is changing, what functionality will remain available, and answers frequently asked questions about this transition.
What smart features are being discontinued?
As of March 2, 2027, the following smart features will be discontinued:
ecobee app setup, control, and configuration
Alexa voice interaction
Third-party smart home integrations including Alexa, Google Home, SmartThings, and IFTTT, including any existing automations created through these platforms
New device activations and registrations will no longer be possible, and our customer support team will also have limited ability to assist with Switch+ issues as of March 2, 2027.
Yes, I have two of them. I was happy with them but I guess they did not sell enough back when they were released. I did put in for my $25 refunds, each, so $50 and already ordered replacement Z-Wave switch and dimmer. I guess I will be installing those over the weekend.
I liked these because they had Amazon Alexa built in but given the limitations, I may look into starting to use tablets throughout my house for touch and voice control and possibly playing music in the kitchen and laundry room while I am doing chores. Disappointing but not surprising.
As HomeKit is local control over mDNS, I don’t see why it WOULDN’T work.
In their article it says
iOS users can also add the device to the Apple Home app via iPhone or iPad. In Apple Home, you can control the light switch and access the temperature sensor, light sensor, motion sensor, and occupancy sensor.
ecobee Support can help customers transition to Apple Home before or after March 2, 2027.
This feature will be available as long as it continues to be supported by Apple.
What you could test beforehand is cut off internet to them via your router and see if it keeps working. If it does, then perhaps their life can be extended!
