New user to HASS. I am starting to wonder if this is going to be more trouble than its worth. ( I hope not, I see nothing but good things from HASS users across the board) I am having an issues configuring my ecobee thermostats. The first thermostat is asking for an API key which can only be obtain with developer status and ecobee has restricted this…does anyone know a work around to get ecobee thermostats configured to HASS?
I have the same question. Just started with home assistant and installed ecobees not realizing I needed a developer key.
Is there a way to expose the ecobee to home assistant via home kit? All I see for home kit integration in my ecobee is a qr code (I think I need that converted to the actual key value)
Thanks
You can add your ecobee to HomeKit and then bring that into HA using the HomeKit Device integration. This does require an iOS device to get it into HomeKit.
I am trying to understand the process to use homekit. Do I need anything more than my iPhone? I have the ecobee added to homekit on my phone but am at a loss how to bridge that into home assistant.
Thanks,
Scott
You have to use the HomeKit integration inside of Home Assistant as your “phone” in other words you do not need your phone. You must install the HomeKit integration in your Home Assistant, then add a device, this will prompt you for information that can be obtain from your ecobee. Basically what is happening here ecobee thinks its connecting to HomeKit, which it is, just not on your phone, you are using Home Assistant to do this. you can not have the ecobee on you phone
Silly question, but I’m assuming you meant you can’t have it connected via Homelink on your phone. Also, where do I get the Pairing code from the ecobee?
So is it correct that there is NO way to integrate Ecobee if you have android then? Or is there a different work around?
I integrated my Ecobee into SmartThings. So I can control the Ecobee in Home Assistant, but the amount of time it takes to control the device is somewhat laggy.
You don’t need ANY phone. Install the Homekit device integration and configure it to connect to your ecobee. Note that you need the homekit device integration, not the homekit bridge.
Some models do not support HomeKit. See this article.
Any suggestions for those who do not have a Developer API key and own a non-HomeKit supported model?
