My two t-stats are Ecobee 3 Lites. They appeared within HAā€™s automatic device detection, so they were easy to add. Are your thermostat and Home Assistant computer on the same network/vlan?

Anyone know how to get it working on a different VLAN? Iā€™ve heard suggestions like enabling mDNS/Bonjour/Avahi on the router, but nothing seems to work.

Iā€™ve been using homekit on my ecobee since I got it.

It does use local control, but I donā€™t allow my IOT devices WAN / Internet access and if the ecobee reboots, it doesnā€™t work again unless I let it call home first.

So if power goes out, when it comes back I have to give it WAN access again before HA can access it.

Iā€™m not sure if this true on every reboot or not.

I wish Iā€™d just built my own, but I also want a thermostat with a control panel and havenā€™t found one with that never requires WAN / Internet access.

You need an mDNS proxy service enabled on your router.
