Ecostrad Adesso iQ WiFi radiator and Tuya integration

Hi,

It looks like this radiator can be controlled from the Smart Life or Tuya app: https://www.electricradiatorsdirect.co.uk/media/pdf/Ecostrad%20iQ%20WiFi%20Element%20manual%20V1.2.pdf

But of course I want to control it from HA. I see there is a thread here that talks about connecting to climate Tuya devices and using a HACS custom component for Local Tuya control:

Hi there, My Tuya thermostates show the correct temp, but there is no indication if the boiler is heating or the termostate has cut out…is there any way to make that show ? [image]

Setting up the Local Tuya integration requires a Tuya development account

My question is - is this still necessary when I don’t want to use Tuya and Smart Life at all? Do I still have to use this component even if I don’t register the device in Smart Life?

I’m guessing the answer will be yes because the custom component mimics the app but I thought I would check first in case there was a more direct approach.
