Hello I am brand new to home assistant and the world of smart home automation. I am based in the US and I am buying a house that was built in the 1950’s and I want to be able to put 24v motorized dampers on all of my runs to the different rooms of the house and put temp sensors in each of the rooms and when the furnace kicks on based on the room that the thermostat is in I would like to be able to have the dampers open or close based on the temp in the rooms. First off is this possible with HA and second is this something that I should attempt with my current knowledge level? What hardware would I need to make this happen beyond the dampers?? Thank you for your time!
I have one motorized damper in my basement that is controlled by HA. The outlet the 24v transformer is plugged into has a WiFi relay that HA will turn on and off based on the temperature sensor in the basement. I have a WiFi thermostat as well so that HA knows when the furnace is running. If running multiple dampers you will need to design the automations to ensure that there are enough dampers open when the furnace is running to avoid stressing the heating system.
Thanks, I’d been meaning to post to Share Your Projects about this — hope it helps:
Definitely pay attention to this if the furnace isn’t designed to be operated like this.
