Electric Sensor/Detector

Howdy,

I have a well pump (240v) that I’d like to detect when it is engaged and have ability to send the engagement of the pump either over an API or to IFTTT. Not needing amount of energy used or such data. I have a wire that goes from the pressure switch, through the basement wall and out to the well so I have a wire that is fully off when the pressure switch is not engaged.

Could you use one of the inputs of a Shelly i3 or i4 ?

Or you could just use a Shelly 1 and connect to the switch input ?

This is all new to me and haven’t heard of much, including these. Will look into these. Thanks!

Be careful - Are these rated to handle/detect high Amp? One would also have to consider whether the starting power load of the pump (which is an inductive load) would kill/overload the Shelly or not, or would introduce fire hazard or not.

Wouldn’t it be better/safer/more interesting to add a flow meter on the pipe instead?
I assume this is for drainage or something, then having a flow meter could be more useful as it could detect if the pump is blocked (or at least haven’t ran in a long time).

It is just for monitoring, not switching the load.

If it is an issue, you could use a CT clamp
