Electric Vehicle Wall Chargers - looking for testers

Hi everyone,

I’m the author of the Besen integration. It’s built into Home Assistant, and there’s also a HACS version that gets new features a bit sooner. It controls the charger locally over Bluetooth, either from your Home Assistant host’s adapter or through an ESPHome Bluetooth proxy. No cloud, no extra bridge, no mqtt or extra app/addon are needed.

I own a Besen BS20, and that’s the only charger I’ve been able to verify. But I suspect the integration works with quite a few other types of chargers. Many chargers are sold under other brands but use the same EVSEMaster mobile app, and that app always pairs with the charger over Bluetooth first. As far as I can tell they all speak the same Bluetooth protocol.

Chargers I’ve found that are advertised as using the EVSEMaster app:

  • Telestar EC 311 S / EC 311 S6
  • Morec MC20CAPP, MC20AAPP, F30APP, WB20AAPP
  • evseODM chargers (evse.com, the company that makes the app)
  • ESM ESM11WALLKFW
  • Wissenergy 7.4 kW wallbox, CC30 11 kW
  • EV Power SlimLine Smart 7 / 22 kW (NZ)
  • Ocular OC20 / LTE Plus (a Besen BS20 rebrand)
  • Besenergy (Besen’s US brand), e.g. BC-T1-APP-32
  • Other Besen models (BS30, BS40, SQ20, CC40…)

If you own one of these, or any charger you control with the EVSEMaster app, I’d really appreciate it if you tried the integration. That includes finding this post months from now through a search… Knowing what works will help me figure out what the integration really supports, and I’ll add every confirmed charger to the docs.

How to try it:

  1. Make sure Home Assistant has Bluetooth within range of the charger: a local adapter, or an ESPHome Bluetooth proxy with active connections enabled.
  2. Close the EVSEMaster app on your phone (or disconnect anything else using the charger). The charger accepts only one connection at a time.
  3. The charger should be discovered automatically. If not, go to Settings → Devices & services → Add integration → Besen. In Settings → Connectivity → Bluetooth → Advertisement monitor, you can check whether it shows up as ACP#….
  4. Enter the charger’s 6-digit PIN. The default is usually 123456 if you never changed it in the app.

What would help me most:

  • Brand and model (and hardware/firmware version if the app shows it)
  • Was it discovered automatically? Did it connect?
  • Which sensors show sensible values: power, energy, temperatures, voltage and current per phase, plug and charging state
  • Does starting and stopping a charge work? Does changing the charging current take effect, including during a charge?
  • A diagnostics download (device page → ⋮ → Download diagnostics). The PIN is redacted.
  • For Besen owners: does your charger use the EVSEMaster app, or the newer EVSE Pro app?

Reports of chargers that don’t work are just as useful. Please reply here or open an issue on GitHub.

Thanks!
