Electricity theft?

So it took me a while to figure this out - The switch turns on only when neighbors are at home.

3 weeks ago I decided to turn off the whole power line for that specific area at home. The main power switches are located outside my apartment next to the stairs, together with the neighbors switches.

After 30min, I went outside again and turned it back on.
I heard some rumbling and noises from the neighbors house, door slams…
Since then I got no problems with my light switch!

Today I woke up to a different light switch behaving the same, which never caused any problems in the past (2 years) in a totally different power line area.

I switched the main line off, after around 30 min, the neighbor wend outside to the stairs hall and opened the cupboard! While humming.
2 hours later I turned back on the main switch, 5 minutes didn’t pass and again I heard noises from outside.

I think they might have dug through the wall and found a few of my power lines. What do you think I should do?

If you are sure that this is the case and you do not want to provide free electricity to your neighbors, I would definitely report it to the appropriate authorities in your country.
You can also turn off everything at home and check the electricity meter to see if it has any consumption.

I don’t know how other countries work. But I have to prove this first. How can I find the whole located idk where, which the neighbor dug
If I turn off all the power line and he’s connected to mine, I won’t be seeing any changes since he won’t have power too.
It could be powering a single device and not all of his home.

Not cutting off the power. Just disable everything at home. Pull all plugs, switch all light off. If the meter still turns, find local electrician, ask to control your installation.

Yes, it is always necessary to prove it. In my country, I have an electricity meter and a main breaker in the corridor. I have circuit breakers in the apartment for individual circuits and I am able to gradually disconnect them and thereby eliminate which circuit it is happening on. After finding out on which circuit the consumption is taking place according to the electricity meter, I would disconnect all devices on this circuit at home and monitor the electricity meter. If I could detect the connection, then it would be clear that there is something else on the circuit that is not part of my apartment.
Yes, a good tip is to contact an electrician to check the installation.
