Emulated Hue Slow to Respond

I have been using a Logitech Harmony Companion with home control buttons for almost a couple of years now. I make use of the home control buttons to turn on/off a couple light groups, a wifi switch, and ceiling fan. I use the Emulated Hue component to discover and control these devices with the Harmony app/remote.

In theory, it is wonderful, and I love being able to control these devices with the remote (I hate voice control).

However, in practice, it is a real pain. Sometimes it works instantly beautifully. However more often than not, I press the button on the remote, and my lights/switches/fan are incredibly slow to respond, sometimes more than 10 seconds. It wasn’t always this way, it seemed to start happening in the last 6 months. I’m not sure what caused it, if it was a change in HA, or a change in Harmony.

It seems to be related to Emulated Hue. The Harmony remote has no delay at all when controlling my home theater. Home Assistant has no delay at all if I control the lights/switches/fan with the front end or iOS app. The Emulated Hue documentation doesn’t give me ideas as to what to try.

I have Hass.io running on a VirtualBox VM currently. I’m running the Pi-hole addon, if that matters. It used to run on a Pi 3 until a month ago, but my SD cards kept dying so I migrated it. The behavior with my Harmony remote was the same for both.

Has anyone else had delay issues with Emulated Hue? Is there anything I can do in my configuration or setup to improve this delay?

Hello hurlan,

did you find a solution to your problem? I am asking because I am also struggling with my Logitech Harmony Companion, which I really like btw.

Kind regards,
Roman.

I’ve just implemented the emulated hue to replace this peace for smartthings and it’s slow to respond, maybe 5 seconds. Did a solution get found?

Thanks,

I had the same issue and here is how I solved it. First, I have 2 Sonoff-Tasmota switches controlling 2 main lights in the living room, in a group in the harmony app then bound to a button on my Harmony Elite. Same issue, about 10 seconds to respond just to turn lights on or off. The same devices work great if controlled individually through Harmony.

However, I made a group for those 2 lights in home assistant and then exposed that group through emulated hue (My emulated hue is configured to hide by default). Bound the harmony button to the emulated hue group and the lights work great. Same lights in a Harmony group are still very slow to respond.

Not sure what the issue is exactly, but for me it seems to be an issue with Harmony groups having emulated hue devices.
