Emulated Hue without Google Home?

Can I use emulated hue with Google Assistant and without the Google Home device? I’ve been trying to set this up and everything seems to be working ok on port 80. Entering the home control settings in Google Assistant however sends me to Phillips Hue website all the time… It doesn’t discover the bridge in the LAN Network.

This made me think… Maybe the Google Home device is required for it to work? Is it?

I know in the home app I need to go into my google home to add the philips hue bridge (HASS emulated). I’m not sure you can configure it without the home device. I’m guessing your bridge is setup correctly and you see output when you browse to it? http://hass_ipaddress/description.xml

Yes, I see that output in the browser. But Google Home app finds no devices… Neither Google Assistant.

I’m using the emulated hue bridge without alexa or google home (also not on port 80), I’ve had mixed results:

  • I got the emulated bridge connected with my Logitech Harmony hub/app, so that works
  • I can’t get “Sleep As Android connected” to the emulated Bridge. :frowning:

I think you cannot, only the Google Home hardware will search for a Hue bridge on your network. Google Assistant pass through you Hue account.
And the emulated Hue bridge is not detected by Philips Hue App.

What if I build a homemade Google Home using my spare Raspberry Pi, will I be able to control my lights using my phone’s Google Assistant? I’m wondering is it possible to talk to my HA using Google Assistant in my phone.

Just use IFTTT if you only want to use your phone, emulated hue doesn’t work with diy Google home’s so you’d have to use it for that too anyway.

Works really well and I don’t notice any lag.

thanks for your suggestion. but i don’t really want to expose my HA to the internet. The IFTTT component needs HA to expose to internet, right?

Yep, that’s the catch 22 with trying to do it on the cheap unfortunately.
