Im using home assistant with chrome. Many times I want to have multiple tabs open with different HASS content. E.g.: I have /states (HOME) in a tab and want to click on /dev-service using my middle mouse button to open this content i a new tab in chorme (or firefox or …). Same should be possible by using the context menu.
So the web GUI should have html links for all it’s menu items.
I tend to agree. While this isn’t a deal breaker, it is annoying.
Not using html links breaks convention and expected browser behavior. The main interface doesn’t even come close to being valid html. This isn’t just a problem for the middle-click or right-click->new tab behavior, this also prevents easy copying of links to clipboard, bookmarking pages, or most other functionality that the right-click menu offers when used in the context of an anchor tag. (It also breaks keyboard navigation, although it seems that that has been fixed with Javascript in the HASS frontend). Not hating on the frontend - that it doesn’t validate isn’t “bad”, it just doesn’t conform to standards.
All of that being said, the battle against abusing web standards was unfortunately lost over a decade ago. “It works” will always win over “It validates”, and “It looks nice” will always beat “It’s correct.” So, while I do agree with you, I don’t know that it will ever be a priority to fix. That said, I’ll vote for it.
That’s right. No deal breaker at all. But I am annoyed every time. Is there a reason behind this behavior? I was quiet surprised about those missing links… (At this point I have to say that I’m relatively new to HASS and don’t now it’s history / progress. Impressive though!)
