Enclosure for smoke detector in ventilation pipe

Hi,

I’m trying to install a smoke detector in a ventilation pipe, but it needs to be pretty waterproof. I wonder if anyone has done anything similar? I’m looking for ideas on the best approach to handle this, after my first attempt got overrun with water.

I was thinking of a small box sealed with silicon, and the leads coming out of the pipe, to the esp32.

Thanks!

Um, how is smoke supposed to enter a sealed box?

You should also find that installation instructions for smoke detectors usually specify a minimum distance from walls and corners to work effectively.

Hi,

given that there is a constant stream of air in the ventilation pipe, I wouldn’t think that minimum distances apply. I was planning on drilling the lid to the same size as the sensor, and siliconing the sensor in place ensuring a tight seal to hopefully stop any water entering the enclosure.
